Emily started dancing at the age of 3 where her love for the art form soon flourished. She went on to train in Oxford learning a range of styles including RAD and Cecchetti Ballet, Tap and ISTD Modern. She holds level 4 qualifications from the RAD and ISTD, having gained distinction in a number of dance exams in her early and mid-teens including Advanced 1 ISTD Modern and RAD Ballet. From here she gained a place at Performers College in Essex where she trained for a year in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre.
Her training gave her a deep understanding of many dance disciplines including Ballet, Jazz, Musical theatre, Contemporary and Tap. While at college, Emily began teaching Modern and Tap to children and adults, which is where her passion for teaching blossomed.
In 2016, Emily began training with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance towards her teaching qualifications. She has now completed her Diploma in Dance Education in Modern Theatre and is currently furthering her education by studying towards an arts degree in Dance Education from the Royal Academy of Dance based in London which she is due to complete in May 2022.
She has extensive experience working with children and adults having taught a range of styles across Oxfordshire. In 2018, she ran her own branch of a music and movement franchise where she gained a huge amount of experience working with children aged six months to five years, as well as studying the most recent material on child development. She is now thrilled to be offering a number of highly popular toddler classes for MPDA, as well as designing and delivering the music and movement and parent and baby fitness class content.
Emily also has experience choreographing for many local events in the area such as the Cowley Road Carnival, the Oxford Light Festival, Bicester Festival and a number of charity events and professional events for local businesses. Her role as manager of MPDA’s dance squads has given her the opportunity to create a range of creative show pieces as well as help young dancers to gain confidence and skill.
Emily believes in a holistic approach to dance education and shares MPDA’s ethos that just one dance class per week can improve many aspects of the student’s life; improving self-confidence and building a positive self-image.
Her role as General Manager and Events Organiser of MPDA has brought a range of new opportunities including organising large scale showcases, planning events, creating new classes and working towards developing MPDA as a whole. She looks forward to helping MPDA to continue to flourish and bringing the many benefits of dance to people of all ages and abilities.
