About our teams
AboutWe have 2 dance competition teams here at MPDA; one junior team for ages 9-12 and a senior team for ages 13-17 . We hold open auditions once a year to allow a fair opportunity for all dancers at MPDA to make the team. Our competition groups are for those who strive for further performance opportunities and want to explore multiple avenues within the dance industry. We hope that being part of these teams will enhance performance skills, improve technical ability, and supply further knowledge about working professionally as a dancer. Students are also offered the opportunity to perform solos and duos/trios at the events.
Please be aware that our competition and squad teams are completely separate. Squad teams perform at public events rather than competing against other schools. Comp Rules
Comp rules- Competition team members are to maintain 100% attendance to rehearsals (not including absences for illness or emergency). This includes not taking holidays during term time and letting us know in advance of any absences which cannot be avoided. Students must also be punctual to class.
- Students must be well presented, with hair neatly tied back in a ponytail or a bun. Students are required to be dressed in MPDA uniform or black tight fitted dance wear. Presentation for rehearsals is highly important as we believe that looking immaculate enhances the standard of performance.
- We ask that competition fees are paid on time. Additional fees will be required for competition entries. The prices vary depending on the event, but invoices and information will be sent to parents in advance of each competition.
- As the students will be going to different venues and meeting new dance schools, members of the team are expected to be respectful, sensible, polite and courteous at all times. The students of the competition team are representing MPDA. Therefore, we trust that they can act as role models for the rest of the school.
- The MPDA competition team will not accept ANY form of bullying, exclusivity or nasty behaviour. In severe circumstances members will be suspended or removed from the competition team.
- It is the students’ responsibility to retain the choreography from week to week. Video footage will be available for practicing.
Rehearsal & Performance Uniform
As stated in the rules, students must be dressed in MPDA uniform or black tight fitted dance wear. Comp team tracksuits are mandatory and are made to order. Presentation for rehearsals is highly important as we believe that looking immaculate enhances the quality of performance. You can purchase MPDA uniform via our online shop.
