Home News & Events Competition team success!
After a round of intense auditions at the MPDA premises last year, Miss April and Miss Emily whittled down many hopefuls to form the MPDA competition team! Training every Wednesday, Miss April teaches advanced, unique, hard hitting choreography to our competition team members, all to prepare them for the nationwide competitions throughout the year.
The competition events are of elite standard, similar to the style of exhibition you’d see on ‘Dance Moms’, and it’s safe to say that although the girls were filled with excitement as they approached their first competition event; they were also filled with apprehension!
It turns out they had nothing to worry about!
XCITE Dance Competition took place on the 19th of Feb and we achieved AMAZING results! We swept the board, achieving 1st place in the small group teen jazz section for their dance; “Free”. We were also awarded another gold medal for the contemporary group “Ultralight beam”. Plus, Lola Barbour placed in the top 10 for the solo improvisation category, in which there were roughly 50 fellow competitors!
Our success didn’t stop there. We also swept the board at our second competition; Destination Dance, placing 1st in our teen jazz group “Free’ and 1st in the our lyrical group for the routine “Hold my hand”. Once again, Lola Barbour placed in the top 10 for solo improvisation. A spectacular achievement for our MPDA ambassador.
Furthermore, Destination Dance hosts an International Final at the end of each competition season which is invitation only, and our lyrical group has only gone and received one of these prestigious invites! The international event will be packed with world class dance competitors and MPDA cannot wait to perform amongst some of the most talented dancers around.
